Coronet Statement on Investigation of Cancer Incidence
Hillsborough County, Fla. (March 4, 2004) - Coronet Industries, Inc. issued the following statement today regarding the Florida Department of Health report on its "Investigation of Cancer Incidence" rates:
"We are pleased -- but not surprised -- by the reassuring results on cancer incidence rates released today by the Florida Department Health. The results are consistent with our expectations and reinforce the fact that there is zero scientific evidence showing Coronet is the source of any adverse health effect in the area.
"It certainly should reassure the community to know that in every category the incidence rates are lower than expected for Hillsborough and Polk Counties .
"Our commitment remains the same -- to do right by our employees, our neighbors and the State of Florida . We are focused on working with governmental agencies to develop a plan that rehabilitates the site in an environmentally responsible manner."
The attached white paper summarizes the findings and media reports of several scientific reports that all fail to directly link Coronet to any adverse health effects near the facility.
Coronet Industries, Inc. manufactures two products, Coronet Defluorinated Phosphate (CDP), a nutritional supplement for animal feed, and potassium fluoroborate (KBF4), which is used in the aluminum alloy and electronics industries. Coronet announced in January it would to cease operations by March 31, 2004 .
